Lasers.

Where should I start? There are many reasons why our favorite weapon, the laser, will simply not work. Power, power, power, these things are hungy E-clip's just won't cut it. According to RIFTS® the E-clip has the power of about 10,000 car batteries. Ok, suppose thats true, the laser is a very inefficient device, perhaps 10% of the power consumed by a laser is converted into light (an immense number for todays times). The rest is simply lost in the active medium and the circuit itself. Suppose that a laser could be made 90% efficient (nothing is 100% efficient just ask the third law of thermodynamics), it would be more powerful indeed, but it will still take approximatly one giga-watt of power to cut metal (1cm thick). Raw numbers, ok (I am an electronic tech, and lasers are my passion) : power of an e-clip = volts of battery X amps of battery X 10,000(e-clip equivalent). thats 12 x 600 x 10,000 Thats 72 million watts or 72 giga-watts. Figure in the efficiency, and thats 72GW x .9 (90%) = 65GW, impressive? No,this cuts through 65 cm of MILD STEEL. Using the 1 to 100 ratio of SDC™ to MDC™ this is .65cm of MDC™ material per whole e-clip! Is the armor you wear only 6.5mm thick? But it gets worse, divide this power by a conservitive 10 shots per clip and the armor must be under .5mm to be peirced with a single shot! Look at the lead to your machanical pencil it is .5mm thick, WOW! Even that pencil lead (exctremly heat resistant could withstand that and it's SDC™)That is a BEST case scenario! So, Lasers, Thumbs down, they can't work unless the laws of physics change!

How about MASERs:
just like a laser but microwave, instead of light, the transfer is heat. Much more destructive (100 times) but uses the same amount of power! GM's, go for the MASERs, Just call the lasers, Masers!.
